Coffee is awesome. I get it. An organic cup of joe in the morning hits the spot. But, what do you do when your body adapts to caffeine and it no longer gives you a kick? Or if you are not a coffee lover? Never fear, here are a few simple things you can do to keep your energy levels up all day!
- Take a cold shower. I know it doesn’t sound like fun, but you will feel amazing afterwards. A three minute cold shower will release mood boosting biochemicals like norepinephrine to pump you up for a natural high!
- Try tea! Yerba Matte and Matcha are two of my faves. Get the boost without the acid aftertaste or the jitters coffee gives some. Plus, there are a host of other health benefits from fighting inflammation and helping to prevent breast cancer! Just make sure they are organic.
- Hydrate. Pound at least 8oz of water when you first wake up. Hydration, even when it’s milk, can cause brain fog and fatigue. So upon rising get that party started right with a big ice cold cup of fresh water. And you can add mint leaves or lemon to it, which also helps me feel that much more refreshed.
- Get some sun. I do realize I’m always telling you to hide from the sun in order to prevent sun damage, but 15 minutes of morning sun three times a week has been shown to help with everything from immunity to boosting estrogen and testosterone levels. If you can, get outside for a brisk walk with some skin exposed in the am to release serotonin and get your day off to an energized start.
- Wake up with some bangin' feel good tunes you love! The research behind music and mood is overwhelming. Here is the long and the short of it – when we play music we love that is upbeat it can stimulate parts of our brain that release a feel good chemical called dopamine.
- Do a morning meditation or breathing exercise. Breathwork and meditation can help manage stress and boost energy and you don’t need to spend a ton of time. Even 5 minutes can make a big difference. Try my beginner breathwork meditation in The Fitness App! It will help you oxygenate your body and boost your mood in no time!
